What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser Hair Removal involves using a focused beam of light directed at a coloured hair follicle, to transfer heat down the shaft to the base of the follicle and sever the connection of the follicle with the blood supply. This ceases the hair follicles growth and inhibits further growth of that follicle for a prolonged period of time. It feels like a mild flicking sensation and involves no application of conductive gels. 6-10 sessions are required for effective hair removal at 4-6 weekly intervals (2-4 weeks for facial hair). This is due to only a certain amount of hair follicles are attached to the blood supply at any time during their growth cycle. This is called the anagen phase. Sessions are spaced to targets hairs that may enter anagen phase between treaments.

Test patches are perfomed prior to starting a treatment program for hair removal to check the skins response to the treatment and work out the optimal treatment parameters.
